Frankfurt T3 Helps Fraport Retail Recover in Q2 Despite Traffic Dip

Fraport's retail revenues per passenger reached €3.24 in the first half, close to last year's level, as a stronger Q2 driven by the new Terminal 3 offset a weak Q1.

Fraport Group's first-half revenue rose 4% year-on-year to €2,069.1 million, while EBITDA climbed 3.8% to €582.3 million. Net profit, however, fell sharply by 47.7% to €51.6 million.

The Retail & Real Estate division generated €267 million in first-half revenue, up 2% year-on-year. Retail alone contributed €89 million, a marginal decline from the same period last year.

Retail revenue per passenger stood at €3.24, just below the previous year's first-half figure. The company attributed a weak Q1 to softer retail demand, but Q2 showed a stronger trend supported by the positive effect of the new Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport.

Passenger traffic at Frankfurt slipped 0.8% in the first half, with almost 700,000 passengers affected by Lufthansa strikes. Higher oil prices and reduced demand for Middle East travel due to geopolitical tensions also led airlines to cut capacity.

By contrast, most airports in Fraport's international portfolio posted passenger growth. Notable increases included Porto Alegre (up 19.2%), Ljubljana (+14.7%), the Black Sea airports of Varna and Burgas (+8.8%), and Greece (+5.4%).
