Fairmont New Orleans Debuts as Brand’s 100th Hotel Globally

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has opened Fairmont New Orleans, returning the Accor-owned luxury brand to the city after 20 years and reaching its 100th hotel worldwide.

The hotel occupies 17 stories of the 31-story former Bank of New Orleans building, a landmark designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in 1970. Kailas Companies developed the property, which Fairmont operates.

Restoration work covered the original sidewalks, entry canopy, lobby floors and concrete walls on the first and second floors, along with decorative bronze paneling and a local cypress ceiling on the second floor.

Omer Acar, CEO of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, called the opening a homecoming after two decades and said New Orleans’ culture, celebration and hospitality made the city a fitting setting for the milestone.

Rockwell Group handled the interiors, drawing on contrasts associated with New Orleans. The design references the 1970s oil boom era through mid-century touches and uses layered textures, saturated colors, local flora and globally influenced patterns.
