Expedia Cuts 58 Seattle Roles in Finance-Led Restructuring
Expedia is eliminating 58 positions in Seattle under a Washington WARN notice filed this week, with the cuts scheduled to take effect between November 21 and December 1. The company says the reductions are tied mainly to a reorganization of its global finance team.
The filing, submitted under Washington's worker adjustment rules, covers roles across several levels, including senior executive posts and technical positions. Of the 31 technical jobs affected, 18 sit in data science and machine learning.
Among the reductions is a senior vice president role. The same position had been reported as affected in August, according to the disclosure.
The restructuring is not limited to Washington. Expedia's reorganization also reached teams in Illinois and Florida, broadening the footprint of the cuts beyond its Seattle base.
In a statement, Expedia described the moves as an effort to streamline operations, saying its Global Finance team is simplifying its organizational structure. The company said some employees will shift into new roles or locations while other positions are being eliminated.
Expedia added that it recognizes the difficulty of the changes and said it is committed to supporting affected employees through the transition.
