Estée Lauder Cos.' Defining Beauty Innovations, From Double Wear to Santal 33

A look at eleven breakthroughs from the Estée Lauder Cos. portfolio, spanning skincare, makeup and prestige fragrance. The list runs from a fragrance-free, dermatologist-developed cleansing trio to Le Labo's Santal 33.

The portfolio's reach stretches across skincare, color cosmetics and fragrance, with each category anchored by products that went on to shape how the industry builds and markets its lines.

On the skincare side, a dermatologist-developed, fragrance-free trio of cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing products is credited with setting a template that modern routines still follow. A separate evening serum, formulated to support the skin's natural repair overnight, ranks among the most popular serums ever produced. La Mer's signature cream introduced the Miracle Broth complex, built on sea kelp, vitamins and minerals, to renew the skin.

In makeup, a soft-matte foundation formula started one of Estée Lauder's most enduring and globally successful franchises, Double Wear. Another range, built around artist-created shades, pushed creativity and performance higher and produced beloved colors including Ruby Woo.

Fragrance contributions include Le Labo's Santal 33. Another scent, blending rosewood, sandalwood, oud and vetiver, is described as having brought oud to a broad audience well before the note became a prestige fragrance trend.

Together the eleven items trace decades of product development across a single beauty group, from treatment and complexion to scent, and show how formulas first aimed at one category often went on to define it.
