Chinese Team Sets Guinness Record with 116 Autonomous Underwater Robots

Researchers from Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xian Tianhe Maritime Technologies deployed 116 autonomous underwater robots in a swimming pool test, earning a Guinness World Record for the most autonomous underwater vehicles operating simultaneously.

The record-setting test involved 116 TH-618s underwater robots, which navigated entirely on their own without remote controls or human intervention. The compact drones were deployed simultaneously in a swimming pool.

The achievement highlights China's rapid advancements in autonomous technology. It also points to an increasingly automated future for marine exploration, environmental monitoring, and aquatic logistics.

The TH-618s robots are autonomous underwater vehicles capable of operating without human direction. Their synchronized deployment demonstrates the potential for swarm robotics in aquatic environments.
