Chanel bags command above-retail prices on the resale market, Fashionphile report finds

Pre-owned buyers are paying premiums of 13% to 15% above retail for several Chanel bag lines, according to luxury re-commerce platform Fashionphile, which also ranked the year's top-selling bags, shoes, watches and jewelry.

Secondhand shoppers have been paying 13 percent more than the original retail price for the Chanel Souplissimo and the Chanel Archetype Tote, while the Chanel Urban Essential line has been fetching 15 percent above retail, according to Fashionphile, a re-commerce platform that trades in pre-owned designer handbags, shoes, watches, fine jewelry and accessories.

The platform attributed Chanel's resale strength to the reception of the maison's new collections under creative director Matthieu Blazy. The Chanel Double Flap held on to second place in Fashionphile's bag ranking.

Louis Vuitton's Speedy was the top-selling bag for a second consecutive year, with its value rising 16.2 percent year over year. The Prada Re-Edition climbed from eighth place to third. The Goyard Saint Louis entered the top 10 at number seven, pushing the Celine Ava off the list entirely. Among the more unexpected movers, the Fendi Spy recorded a 127 percent jump in average resale value amid the current Y2K revival.

In footwear, the three best-selling styles were the Hermès Oran sandals, followed by the Gucci Ace sneakers and the Louis Vuitton Star Trail Ankle Boots.

The top three watches were led by the Hermès Clipper, ahead of the Cartier Panthère and the Gucci Interchangeable Bezel. Hermès also took the number one spot in earrings.

Fashionphile described the Hermès Farandoles as the "undisputed studs of 2026," followed by the Louis Vuitton Louise hoops and the Van Cleef & Arpels Sweet Alhambra studs.
