Balaveda Raises Nearly $1.2M to Expand Retail Reach and Take On 5-Hour Energy
Balaveda has raised nearly $1.2 million from 14 friends-and-family investors to expand retail distribution and challenge 5-Hour Energy with better-for-you functional shots.
The funding round, collected from 14 friends-and-family investors, will support Balaveda's growing retail network, which could reach as many as 3,000 doors by the end of the year, up from 670 currently.
Balaveda's sales are up 400% year over year, according to co-founder Sebastian Smith. The brand is on pace to become profitable in the first quarter next year and generate $3 million to $4 million in 2027 sales.
Smith said the priority is giving people healthier choices, noting that consumers increasingly care about what they put into their bodies. He added that while the money matters for growth and investor returns, the most important goal is putting health back in people's hands.
The brand's assortment includes 10 stockkeeping units: seven functional shots spanning energy, immunity and beauty-focused collagen offerings, plus three nootropic powders. Its energy shots contain 90 to 180 milligrams of plant-based caffeine from organic green coffee and matcha, paired with ingredients such as L-theanine, cordyceps and eleuthero.
Housed in glass, the shots are organic and avoid synthetic dyes and artificial flavors. Benchmarked against 5-Hour Energy, whose regular-strength shot contains 200 milligrams of caffeine, Balaveda's shots are priced at $3.99 apiece, with prices varying by retailer.
