American Airlines network planning chief Brian Znotins to retire

American Airlines' top network planner Brian Znotins will retire, and Nick Andersen will become senior vice president of network planning on November 1, according to an internal memo from chief commercial officer Nat Pieper.

Znotins' departure adds to a series of changes in American Airlines' leadership ranks. Pieper outlined the transition in an internal memo, naming Andersen as the executive who will take over network planning starting November 1.

Andersen has spent nearly 20 years at American and US Airways. His experience includes roles in network, revenue management, pricing, operations, fleet planning, flight profitability and labor analysis.

The memo also set out a reporting change: the commercial planning and performance teams will report to Scott Chandler, vice president of revenue management.

American has largely concentrated its network strategy on domestic routes, while international flying has been where the money is. The leadership transition puts Andersen in charge of network planning as the carrier continues to adjust its commercial organization.
